Creating Your Vision Board for 2010
Since we think in pictures, creating a Vision Board is a great way to capture our dreams in images. I love to begin each year with this process. Here’s how I do it:
Before you “do” anything, take some quiet time to sit and dream a little about 2010. Let yourself dream big and see what comes into your mind and heart about your desires for yourself for next year. Dream about the areas of love, money, health, travel, spiritual growth, whatever you’re passionate about. Don’t edit what comes to mind, just let it flow. You’re accessing your subconscious mind, which is the seat of your heart’s desire. Once you’ve had this time, put on some music and have some fun.
Gather up all your old magazines and collect images from the Internet, use your photos or make drawings. As you go through the images, choose any that “speak” to your soul or evoke good feelings, or illustrate something you want to be, do or have in your life in 2010. It’s also good to have scissors, a glue stick, colored markers, glitter pens, crayons or pastels, glitter – any art supplies you have around or want to include.
Once you have all your supplies assembled, let yourself be guided by your visions and goals. Write down your top 5-8 goals on a piece of paper. Then follow these steps if you need them for inspiration:
1. Create your vision and goals on a poster board.
2. Write your top 5-8 goals and paste them in the middle of the poster.
3. Cut photos and words from magazines, photographs, the web, other places: find images that represent visually what your vision and goals are.
4. Glue the images and words to the poster board, to make a visual collage of your vision and goals. We think in pictures, and pictures help form the stories of our lives.
5. Make it as simple or elaborate as you feel moved to create. Don’t rush this – sometimes I work on mine for a few days, sometimes it’s done in an hour or two.
6. Look at your creation and see what the stories are that it tells you, about you and your life. These new images and stories become the foundation for your life for the New Year. Use the Vision Board to stimulate visualizations and feelings about living this life. See and feel yourself in the places, with the people, having the experiences.
7. Hang your Vision Board near your work area so that you can easily see it. Let it inspire you to live big!
