The Four Questions
When we commit to following our dreams, opportunities will present themselves. In my experience and with my clients, it’s sometimes not clear what are opportunities and what are mental distractions to keep us “safe” as we move forward. My mentor, David Neagle, offers 4 questions to ask to clarify this.
When you become aware of an opportunity, or more than one possibility, ask yourself these four questions to know which to follow:
1. Is this something I want to be, do or have?
2. Is being, doing or having this in harmony with my life’s purpose?
3. Is being, doing or having this in harmony with God’s laws or the Laws of the Universe?
4. Will being, doing or having this violate the rights of others?
This is not only an intellectual process. You can build an intellectual case for anything. As you contemplate these questions, the place to look for the answers is in your heart. Only you can know the right answers here. This is a great time to be honest with yourself and see if you are choosing from a place of safety or really believing in and going for your dream.
Obviously, you want to have a “yes” answer to the first 3 questions and a “no” to the fourth. If you’re still not completely clear, my advice is to take the opportunity that seems bigger and that you can’t quite see how it can all happen. This is the one that will stretch and grow you the most and the most quickly. It’s only by stepping boldly into action that you will change and grow.
